Dr. Kamilah Majied

Dr. Kamilah Majied, MSW, PhD is a mental health therapist, clinical educator, researcher, author, and internationally engaged consultant on building inclusivity and equity using meditative practices. Dr. Majied enjoys engaging people in experiencing wonder, humour, and insight through transforming oppressive patterns and deepening relationships toward ever-improving individual, organisational, and communal wellness. She is a Professor of Social Work at California State University, Monterey Bay, and she is the founder of Majied Contemplative Consulting, where she uses meditative practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion leadership development. Her expertise includes guiding organisations in changing processes and policies to reflect inclusivity and equity while actively dismantling structural oppression. She has taught contemplative practice from several perspectives, including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, mindfulness and racial justice, Buddhism and mental health, and mindfulness practices to preserve the environment.
She is the author of Joyfully Just: Black Wisdom and Buddhist Insights for Liberated Living (Sounds True, April 2024).
Dr. Majied is a contributing author of Black Buddhists: What Buddhism can teach us about Race, Resilience, Transformation and Freedom. The first anthology of African American Buddhists’ Wisdom. She also narrated the audio version of this book. She is the author of multiple published articles, podcasts, and webinars on contemplative practice.
