Parish Meeting

All parishes have a “meeting”. Some parishes have only a meeting but most, like Maiden Newton, have a parish meeting and a parish council. A parish meeting consists of the local government electors of that parish.

A parish meeting must meet at least twice a year if there is no parish council or once a year, always in the spring, if there is. For parishes with a council the Chairman of the parish council automatically chairs the meeting if present. Failing that the Vice Chairman and failing that a chairman is elected for the evening.

The “Annual Parish Meeting” is not to be confused with the “Annual Parish Council Meeting”.

A parish meeting may pass resolutions on a wide range of subjects but the parish council need not take any heed of them. On the next page are the minutes of the last meeting. The Chairman provides a Report to the Meeting. Older items are archived here.
