There were three members of the public present at the meeting on 2 November 2006.
New Councillor
William Long has been selected to fill the vacancy on the Council.
Affordable Housing
Mrs. Marsh has informed the Council that agreement has finally been reached between West Dorset District Council and the Signpost Housing Association, relating to the reservation of the houses for local people. Plans for the development of the twelve houses can now move onto the next stage.
Children's Playground
Persons unknown have vandalised the "cock" springer used by younger children. This has been removed pending decisions about improvements to the Playground.
Flooding in Bull Lane
The work carried out earlier this year has not solved the problem because there are no other drains in the roadway to collect surface water until the bungalows above the Fire Station are reached. All the rainwater from the lower part of Bull Lane together with that from the Pennard development, Glebe Close and every paved or tarmaced house drive or path runs into this single drain. In times of heavy rainfall, it cannot take all the water away. Every resurfaced driveway or path increases the problem. Only the telephone exchange entrance and that at Cheverells have been fitted with drainage strips to reduce rain water run off from the property.
Major work will have to be carried out to install surface water drains at regular intervals between the Fire Station and Dorchester Road before the problem can be resolved.
Highway matters
The 30 mph signs and the other highway warning signs on Norden Lane have again been reversed. The Police are now involved as this practice can lead to road accidents.
On Tuesday 7 November the annual inspection of the roads and pavements in Maiden Newton Parish took place. By the time this is in print, all the drains and gulleys should have been 'blown out' and cleared. A drain has already been installed to remove the large puddle outside 80 Dorchester Road.
The County Council has been asked to provide a hard standing area for the use of bus passengers alighting opposite the end of Newton Road.
